Motto "Right First Time"
Lueneburg, Germany, November 1, 2007 - It was not just "Right First Time" - even at the ninth PAS-X User Group Meeting in Lueneburg things were going according to plan. More than 110 participants from 45 companies accepted Werum's invitation for the 18th and 19th October. Werum customers and other interested parties convened to gather technical information in general and to share experiences in introducing and running the MES software PAS X.
The conference program offered a diversified mixture of user reports, product novelties and live demos, plans for product development as well as line-related lectures.
The Topics in Detail
Hartmut Krome, member of the Werum executive board, opened the conference with giving an overview of the company's situation and their strategic orientation in the MES business segment.
Andrej Petkovic (Krka), chairman of the PAS-X User Forum (PFU), brought the audience up to date with his lecture on current topics and developments in the PFU. He also emphasized the importance this committee has for all PAS X customers and appealed for active cooperation. After one year in office, he passed the PFU chairman mace on to his previous co-chairman Dr. Andreas Rothmund (Vetter Pharmafertigung).
Rolf Blumenthal and Klaus Schreiner (both with Werum) introduced the PAS X strategy and roadmap for product development. Afterwards, they presented new functions and products.
In two break-out sessions held in parallel the participants split up by sphere of interest:
The first break-out session focused on the subject of software validation. Prof. Dr. Hartmut Hensel (Harz College) gave a lecture on the current state in advancing the GAMP Guideline (Good Automated Manufacturing Practice), the standard work for validation of computerized systems in pharmaceutical industry. He gave a first insight into GAMP5, which will be published in 2008.
Subject of the second break-out session was "MBR Modelling & EBR Execution". Michael Schunk (Werum), skilled project
manager and expert in the biotech field, depicted the special conditions to be faced in the biopharmaceutical
production of active ingredients. Bart Haerkens (Organon) reported on the experiences he made with MBR's in
the packaging area. Dr. Siegfried Proyer (Punktwissen) showed the audience different approaches to
MBR creation using two different (campaign) weighing projects as examples. Finally, Reiner Kuehl (Werum) shared his expert knowledge on the topic of silo dispensing.
Deep insights into the rapidly growing pharma market in China and the challenges faced in entering this market
were given by Carlos Hedler of Werum's partner Bayer Technology and Engineering (Shanghai).
Venue of the evening event this time was Hamburg. Its maritime highlight was a three-hour trip on the Elbe river and an exclusive dinner onboard the excursion boat "Riverstar".
With his lecture on "Achieving Paperless Manufacturing" Eamonn O'Mathuna (Genzyme) gave the go-ahead for the second day. O'Mathuna described the progression of the multi-stage MES project in Waterford, Ireland, starting with the vendor selection procedure and their target through to system integration and PAS-X start-up.
Dr. Timo Slawinski (Bayer Technology Services) presented the global MES program of Bayer HealthCare (BHC). In summer this year, BHC decided to pursue a uniform MES Core approach at all their sites throughout the world within the scope of their global IT strategy.
