Novartis Singapore:
Harmony cuts costs - Pioneering machinery integration project at Novartis greenfield plant in Singapore

Article published in PROCESS worldwide,
October 2008

Summary

At its new solid dose plant in Singapore, the Swiss global player Novartis has created a data communications link from virtually all of the production floor machinery to the higher-level Werum MES (Manufacturing Execution System) and a data historian which is used for long-term data archival. Right from day one, an unprecedented level of data communications standardization between the shop floor and higher-level systems has set the stage for totally paperless production. For the first time, the company is able to capture production data at a central location in a generalized electronic format.

The article, written by freelance journalist Dr. Christine Eckert, describes the premises for this project and the benefits of a highly integrated MES-led production system.
