Summary
Dr. Timo Slawinski, Bayer Technology Services, examines in his article under which circumstances the introduction of a Manufacturing Execution System in the pharmaceutical industry pays off. He gives a summary of the development of MES as a logical layer between process control system and enterprise resource planning. In his opinion the potential business benefit of a MES turns out very positive. Due to his experience the return of investment in MES projects ranges between 2 - 4 years. By the example of Bayer HealthCare Slawinski illustrates a global MES strategy with a multi-site rollout.
