Managing Information
in Test and Measurement Environments
  • Managing test data
  • Using information efficiently
  • Ensuring traceability
  • Identifying relationships
Tests and experiments in every test stand, test field or laboratory result in huge amounts of data and associated information of different kinds. Searching and finding test data often exceeds the time and effort needed for subsequent evaluation of such data. Continuously growing stocks of valuable data are at odds with ever shorter development cycles. Therefore, smart IT support for secure and efficient test processes provides a significant competitive edge.

The HyperTest platform developed by Werum forms the basis for integrated test data and information management systems.

Such systems are employed in research and development, field trials, quality assurance or fundamental research. Users have all the results and documents associated with their tests at hand and see the conditions and configurations under which a test was run, enabling it to be reproduced at any time.

HyperTest has been developed in a close dialog with customers and responds to most of the requirements coming up in daily testing business.

Mastering Information
The development and manufacturing of high-quality products require both close cooperation and a continuous exchange of information between all those involved. The growing complexity of components and the increasingly high quality standards for products have led to a rising number of tests.

The related processes generate vast amounts of data and information from multiple sources and in different formats. To find and analyze data, HyperTest users have access to information on the unit under tests, requirements, test data, configuration parameters and test results.

Who measured what, when, how, with what Instruments and for what Purpose?

It is not always immediately clear whether or not a particular test has already been conducted and analyzed. To improve clarity and avoid unnecessary effort and expense, HyperTest enhances the data with additional information and makes this information available. This includes details on the configuration of the test stand and the unit under test, test parameters, measuring points, measuring equipment, analysis procedures plus individual comments and reports. As a result, the existing data can be searched and reliable information on whether comparable tests exist is retrieved quickly.
Technical Know-How becomes searchable
For data analysis it is vital that the relationships between the data are known. Only when all existing data is interlinked appropriately, is it ensured that the information can be fully understood. For this reason, HyperTest also acquires other information in addition to the actual test and measurement data, such as orders, requirements, design documents, analysis procedures, simulations, etc., and links them to the test data. Engineers are free to add their own documents and define relationships. That improves transparency, for example by documenting the basis for a decision. HyperTest not only shows correlations between the test procedure and test task, it also shows the basis on which a specific result has been generated. And this ensures that the entire process is reproducible and understandable.
System-Integrated Test Data Management
Normally, several testing and measuring systems operating independently of each other are used in parallel for specific tasks. The data collected by such systems is kept in different file systems and databases. The meta-information for such data sets is often given in file and/or directory names or in the headers of measurement files. HyperTest imports these files unchanged, extracts meta-data, such as from DIAdem® TDM, MDF, NFF, ASAM-ATF or XML files, and uses them for comprehensive test data management. A connection to an archive ensures the controlled long-term storage and management of data.
Delivering Results

Users either base their analysis on the measurement data obtained in the course of tests or use condensed information. HyperTest makes it possible to process test data in an ad-hoc manner with software tools on the client machine. Standard analysis operations can be made directly on the server, which reduces the data transfer volume and the need to install the analysis software on the individual workstations.

With the help of reporting tools, the users prepare reports in different formats based on the stored meta-data.
Successful Data Analysis and Investigation
Typically, for finding and retrieving stored information, users must know exactly the logic underlying the data filing structures and must adhere to strict data management principles themselves. HyperTest automatically imports the data to manage it and enables users to search and find information independently of where it is stored.

HyperTest offers handy search strategies for finding individual tests:
  • Fast database search in test meta-data
  • Full-text search in selected test meta-data, such as in comment fields
  • Full-text search in documents
  • Search in logical structures
  • Navigation along links, including navigation from a document to a test
  • Filter functions
  • User-specific saving of frequently used search profiles
The results of data analysis and investigation provide a survey of the meta-information for easy reference. With one easy click every search result is presented in a logical structure. HyperTest provides access to the files by using the respective tool – like DIAdem® or Microsoft® Office tools. Specific software applications may be integrated by using the plug-in feature.

Managing Measuring Equipment
 Top of Page
Measuring equipment management makes it easier to design and set up test stands and units under test in the run-up to a test. Information provided by the system replaces time-consuming inquiries. The measuring equipment information adds the signal chain to the test documentation.

Measuring equipment management offers the following features:

  • Description of measuring equipment, devices and sensors
  • Current whereabouts (located in stock, in test vehicle, in calibration laboratory, etc.)
  • Calibration status with documentation / calibration history / warning function
  • History of use
  • Logging
Setting up Measuring Points
This involves the efficient use of test stands and test vehicles and units. Those in charge of the unit under test and the measurement technology work with the same level of information regarding the possible or existing measuring points and their properties.

The following features are available:

  • Keeping a complete list of all measuring points
  • Describing measuring points and assigning them to test vehicles
  • Creating instructions for technicians
  • Documenting users and persons in charge of measuring points
  • Managing configurations for test vehicles
  • Allocating measuring equipment
Complying with Quality Requirements

To be able to benefit from and use test data on a long-term basis, all associated information must be managed consistently. Only consistent information management will ensure a thorough understanding of the data’s origin and all the influencing factors. So the data will still be interpretable in an audit-proof manner at a later point in time.

Thanks to the integrated management of tests, measuring equipment and measuring points, all the required information is kept together and made available immediately.

Managing Test Processes efficiently
HyperTest solutions support the individual organization of the test processes – from test definition to automated test analysis. In test laboratories, for example, the system streamlines request management processes, facilitates coordination between development and testing departments and manages data filing. This creates the foundation for the shared use of the data.

HyperTest makes the scope, planning and status of tests transparent, which enhances cost awareness and improves adherence to schedules.

From Measurement to Knowledge
 Top of Page
As an integration platform, HyperTest supports cross-department processes throughout the life cycle of a product. HyperTest records all relevant data, documents and information on test processes and ensures that they can be investigated and retrieved again.

In the course of tests, information is both required and generated. HyperTest ensures that this information is linked, coherently managed and archived. Relational databases such as Oracle® or PostgreSQL are used by HyperTest to manage the meta-data. The Werum solution securely saves and files the measured data and documents in common data storage systems. An elaborate system of roles and rights warrants that users only have access to those data and documents that they are permitted to handle. In addition, their view of the data is adjusted according to their respective roles.
Multi-Client Capability
It is possible to configure a HyperTest-based application in a way that several clients (like field trial team, component testing team, or other specific teams) can work with the application without having shared insight into their data, user administration, configurations, etc. And that makes HyperTest solutions expandable: from data management for a single test stand to cross-division information management systems.
Integration Platform for Development

Acting as a connecting link between requirements management, test request management, test execution and reporting, HyperTest consistently supports all your workflows from end to end with role-specific functions. With its proven architecture HyperTest enables flexible integration in typical system environments:
  • Test systems from different providers
  • Requirements management
  • Order management and tracking
  • Sensor and measuring-point databases
