Processing and product management for GOME-2 atmospheric trace gas monitoring
Vortrag gehalten bei der EUMETSAT Meteorological Satellite Conference in Prag, Tschechische Republik,
31. Mai - 4. Juni 2004
Within the distributed EUMETSAT Polar System (EPS) ground segment,
the German Aerospace Center (DLR) will act as an integral part
of the Satellite Application Facility for Ozone Monitoring
(O3M-SAF) for the processing, archiving and delivery of GOME-2
atmospheric total column trace gas products. The GOME-2 level
1b input data are systematically disseminated by the EPS ground
segment to the O3M-SAF. Upon data reception, the O3M-SAF immediately
starts processing for the generation of near-real-time level 2 products,
especially total column ozone concentration maps. Subscribed users such
as SAF network partners or weather services get the data delivered
within 45 minutes after arrival at the O3M-SAF. Users can order
offline atmospheric trace gas products either via the EUMETSAT
UMARF catalogue or via the DLR web gateway (EOWEB).
The challenging requirements of the EPS ground segment for the SAFs
concerning processing throughput, system reliability, guaranteed
near-real-time capability, data consistency and activity
traceability are met at DLR with an integrated O3M-SAF
processing and product management system with scalable
components for processing, archiving and delivery.
This paper presents the processing and product management system
of the O3M-SAF at DLR. The system consists of a generic processing
system management component configured to interface DLR's Universal
Processor for Atmospheric Spectrometers (UPAS) and an interface
component to the UMARF catalogue for the upload of products and
the reception of orders. For central product and order management
tasks the system uses a standard interface to access the
components and functionality of the multi-mission Data
Information and Management System (DIMS). DIMS is operational
at DLR since 2001 in the ground segment of various earth
observation missions. Next to an overview on the functionality and structure of the DLR O3M-SAF, we focus on the support of the various usage scenarios of the GOME-2 total column products and show how a flexible framework can be utilised to significantly increase the amount of reuse when dealing with future ground segment applications.
